Google has recently enhanced its mobile Chrome following feed feature, expanding beyond displaying content solely from followed publications to now include topics as well. This means users will now experience a more diverse array of sites in their follow feed within Chrome.
Glenn Gabe, a prominent figure in analyzing alternative Google feeds and SERPs, highlighted this significant change on X. According to Glenn, the Chrome feed previously focused on following and viewing “publications.” However, it has recently transitioned to following “topics.”
In detail, Glenn explained that the following feed appears in a new tab in Chrome, where users can choose between Discover and Following feeds. This transformation indicates a noteworthy shift in how users interact with and consume content through the Chrome browser.
Here are screenshots demonstrating how it is displayed by topic rather than just publication:
This appears to be an expansion of the Google Search and Discover follow feature, and as Glenn mentioned, Google should update the documentation for this Chrome feature to reflect this.
