Google Rolls Out “Menu Highlights” Carousel for Restaurant Searches
Google is introducing a new “Menu Highlights” carousel feature in search results, allowing users to see popular menu items from a restaurant directly at the top of the search page. When searching for a restaurant’s brand name, this menu carousel appears prominently, displaying highlighted items like beverages, appetizers, and entrees, giving potential customers a quick glimpse of the offerings.
This feature was first spotted by BrightLocal, who shared a post about it on X. The new layout showcases the menu highlights at the top of the search results, instead of being confined to the local listing. BrightLocal noted, “Menu highlights are shown front and center in a branded search on desktop—not confined to the local pack,” making it easier for users to browse popular items at a glance.
In addition to menu highlights, Google also displays a “Related Places” section below the restaurant’s listing. While this could be helpful for users exploring similar dining options, some restaurant owners may find it frustrating as it potentially diverts attention from their brand.
This update highlights Google’s commitment to improving local search experiences by offering rich, detailed information upfront. The “Menu Highlights” carousel feature makes it easier for users to engage with restaurant listings, increasing the chances of attracting diners by displaying enticing menu options immediately.
