Google Drive Update Adds Enhanced Video Player for Smoother Viewing

Google Drive has introduced a major update to its video player, making it easier for users to watch, preview, and manage video files directly within the app. Known more for file storage than video playback, Google Drive now offers an upgraded viewing experience in line with Google’s Material Design 3, giving the video player a modern, cleaner look.

The updated video player features smoother playback, intuitive controls, and a less cluttered interface. Users can now easily fast-forward and rewind videos with improved controls, while options to adjust playback speed and manage captions make the experience even more user-friendly. This consistency with Google’s video features is set to align with Google Vids, the soon-to-be-released video editor.

For those with Google Workspace, Workspace Individual, or personal Google accounts, the new video player promises a seamless viewing experience for video content. The rollout has begun for Google Workspace Rapid Release domain users, who should see it in their apps within two weeks from October 22. For other users, the rollout begins on November 18, with the update available over a three-day period.

This update enhances Google Drive’s usability as a video preview tool, allowing users to make quick decisions on video storage and playback directly within the app. The new video player brings Drive closer to dedicated video applications in terms of flexibility and ease of use, providing a user-friendly option for managing video content.
