Google Maps Latest Update For Android Auto and Cars
Google introduced new Android Auto and vehicle features with integrated Google systems at CES 2024. One major improvement is electric vehicle integration with Google Maps.
EV Integration with Google Maps
Beginning with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, EVs equipped with Android Auto will allow drivers to view their battery level in real time on Google Maps. It will provide battery estimates for trips and suggest charging stops along the way. It will also estimate charging times based on the vehicle specifications. This addition should make long-distance trips in EVs easier to schedule.
Seamless Trip Planning
Additionally, cars with built-in Google systems can accept trip routes created on Android or iOS devices. Drivers can easily send planned Maps routes from their phones to the vehicle dashboard for turn-by-turn navigation.
New In-Car Entertainment Options
Google also introduced new in-car entertainment options. The Chrome browser is being rolled out in limited quantities to Polestar and Volvo models, with wider availability expected later this year. Streaming services like PBS Kids and Crunchyroll are also available in some vehicles.
Weather Channel App and Digital Car Keys
The Weather Channel app is also available for cars with built-in infotainment systems. It provides hands-free access to forecasts, radar maps, and more. Furthermore, digital car keys are being rolled out for select Volvo vehicles and will soon be supported by more Android devices, allowing you to lock and unlock your car using your smartphone.
Expanding the Roster of Services
Google continues to collaborate with automakers to expand the list of useful Android Auto and built-in services, with Nissan, Ford, and Lincoln models coming this year. Google aims to improve the safety, convenience, and enjoyment of passengers in the over 200 million vehicles that already have Google built-in.
